Biography
Wayne Alexander has over 25 years of patent, trademark, and copyright litigation, licensing and enforcement experience divided between Japan and the United States. His technical experience covers a wide range, including digital based electronics, such as HDTV, DVD, semiconductors, set top boxes, camcorders, HDD, computer peripherals, digital still cameras, and LED. Wayne is also involved in other cutting edge technologies such as carbon nanotubes. He has managed several high profile U.S.A. patent litigations. Wayne has also been in charge of licensing large consumer products portfolios, trademarks, copyrights, Internet services, and software.
Wayne was previously the President of Thomson Licensing, Inc., where he was responsible for licensing Thomson's (formerly RCA's and GE's) consumer electronics patent portfolio. Through licenses with Japanese, Korean, and Chinese companies, Wayne helped Thomson generate over $450 million per year in royalty revenue. He helped Thomson develop new patent licensing programs and royalty bases, stop royalty rate decline, protect against in-coming patent claims, reduce past due and delinquent accounts, and enforce IP rights, for example, through International Trade Commission (ITC) and District Court actions.
Prior to working for Thomson, Wayne was the Vice President and General Counsel of the Walt Disney Company Japan, where he was responsible for Disney's legal matters in Japan, the second largest market for Disney, with over $1 billion in annual sales. At Disney, Wayne led the licensing and litigation efforts in Japan for the company’s large consumer products portfolio and the Tokyo Disney Resort, as well as Internet services and software. He helped Disney develop litigation and licensing strategies and programs, negotiated license agreements, monitored licensees, and policed the use and infringement of Disney’s intellectual property rights.
Prior to that, Wayne was Head Senior Counsel of the Licensing and Trademark Division of the Sony Corporation in Tokyo, which protects, licensing and manages Sony's patents and other intellectual properties worldwide. At Sony, Wayne negotiated and drafted international patent licenses for high tech products. He also negotiated and drafted joint development and patent license agreements with other international electronics corporations.
Wayne’s previous positions also include counsel for the New York State Governor’s Office and staff attorney for the New York State Association of Retarded Children, Inc.
Wayne is a frequent speaker at seminars for the Japan Patent and Trademark Office and major corporations. Representative Clients
