Biography
Jennifer Barrett is responsible for a wide variety of trial and appellate matters -- in areas of law such as insurance, reinsurance, corporate governance, intellectual property and trade secrets, unfair competition, consumer protection, employment, defamation, entertainment and securities -- on behalf of clients engaged in a diverse range of businesses, including: brokerage and other financial services, insurance, publishing, television news, on-line marketing and services, consumer products, music distribution, transportation and health care.
Notable Representations
Served as litigation and strategic counsel for American International Group, Inc. (“AIG”) in multi-pronged dispute with former AIG CEO Maurice R. Greenberg, C.V. Starr & Co., Inc. and various Starr affiliates concerning the ownership of more than $1 billion in insurance and reinsurance business – including multiple federal and state court actions and arbitrations involving issues of insurance, agency, corporate governance, trademarks and employment.
Represented Morgan Stanley in highly publicized matter that included the defeat of a preliminary injunction sought against Morgan Stanley and the new senior management of Morgan Stanley’s global wealth management operations.
In Century 21 Real Estate Corporation v. LendingTree, Inc. (D.N.J.) and RE/Max International, Inc. v. LendingTree, Inc. (D. Colo.), represented LendingTree, a consumer services company, in actions for trademark infringement and false advertising arising out of LendingTree’s web-based real estate referral business. Case resulted in standard-setting decision of the Third Circuit addressing novel issues of nominative trademark use.
In Lava Trading v. royalblue financial corp. (S.D.N.Y.), representing royalblue, a subsidiary of Fidessa group plc (a publicly-traded UK company) in an action alleging infringement of a patent for consolidating multiple electronic securities trading systems. |
