Structured Finance and Derivatives Litigation

The firm has the premier structured finance and derivatives litigation practice in the world.  Our structured finance group has more than 90 lawyers in New York, London, and Los Angeles and is at the forefront of cutting edge litigation relating to the financial crisis, including court actions and arbitrations in the U.S. and the United Kingdom involving collateralized debt obligations, residential mortgage backed securities, structured notes, credit default swaps, interest rate and currency swaps, total return swaps, financial guaranties, credit-linked notes, and other structured products and derivatives.  Our structured finance team has a deep understanding of the complex products at issue in these matters and works with some of the most respected financial experts in the industry.  Our litigation platform is also supported by in-house swap and derivatives expert Daniel Cunningham, who was U.S. counsel to ISDA for twenty years.  Our clients include banks, insurers, reinsurers, hedge funds, and other market participants, and our cases involve over $50 billion in aggregate total exposures.

We are one of the few top tier firms that can be and is regularly adverse to major financial institutions such as Citigroup, Bank of America, Barclays, J.P. Morgan Chase, Credit Suisse, UBS, RBC, Deutsche Bank and Goldman Sachs.  To date, Quinn Emanuel’s financial institutions and structured products litigation practice has won billions of dollars in settlements and awards for its clients, and successfully defended against claims of comparable size.
