Jan-Philip Elm is a trainee lawyer in Quinn Emanuel’s Zurich Office. Prior to joining Quinn Emanuel, he worked as a judicial law clerk in the Civil, Commercial, and Criminal Divisions at the High Court of the Canton of St. Gallen. In addition, he worked as research assistant to Prof. Dr. Anne van Aaken, Chair for Law and Economics, Legal Theory, Public International Law, and European Law (Alexander von Humboldt Professor 2018–2023) and Director of the Institute of Law and Economics (ILE), at the University of Hamburg as well as the University of St. Gallen (HSG). He also trained with two leading law firms in the areas of international commercial arbitration and litigation in Switzerland and the United Kingdom (UK).

Jan-Philip holds a Master of Arts HSG (M.A. HSG) in Law and Economics from the University of St. Gallen (HSG) and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Economic Law, Business, and Policy from Stanford Law School. He also completed the Special Student Program at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) at Harvard University. In addition, he was a member of the organizing committee of both the St. Gallen Symposium and START St. Gallen.

Jan-Philip is in the process of finishing his doctoral dissertation at the University of Hamburg. He is fluent in English, German, French, and Spanish.
