This lawsuit arose from what has been reported as “the largest known data theft in the history of the IRS,” which resulted in the publication of confidential tax information from America’s wealthiest taxpayers. After eighteen months of litigation, and as part of the resolution of the case, the IRS issued a public apology to Ken Griffin and the thousands of American taxpayers affected by this incident and reassured them that the IRS will continue to do more to protect confidential taxpayer information.
